Get Acquainted with Travel Insurance Features

Article by anubhav kapoor

The realm of travel insurance is being increasingly explored by the global, traveling community. The recent spate of travel-related problems seems to have awakened people towards the overall utility of visitor’s insurance. Further, travel insurance has become very affordable, thanks to the numerous insurance providers that are competing in this niche. However, first-time purchasers of travel insurance are yet to understand the finer nuances of this type of insurance. The process of buying visitor’s insurance becomes easier if certain basic questions are understood. Some of these have been listed below in an easy-to-understand format:

Why does bundled travel insurance score over over-the-counter plans?

Many travelers tend to buy their travel insurance at the last moment. This is often purchased from small-time travel agents. However, these types of plans aren’t recommended if you are seeking a secure and valid form of visitor’s insurance. These, over-the-counter type of visitor’s insurance plans aren’t backed by bigger brands that can guarantee travel insurance in any foreign destination. Further, the kind of medical coverage they provide is very limited-not greater than the kind of token medical insurance offered by a credit card company or any brand indulging in promotional activities.

However, the Global Health Insurance plans that are offered by the more accomplished brands offer ‘bundled packages’. These plans offer the true form of visitor’s insurance wherein various types of insurance covers are bundled to form one, effective travel insurance package. The premium amount for such plans might seem a bit higher when compared with over-the-counter travel insurance plans but they provide the surety that the visitor insurance cover will not be challenged by an overseas authority, combined with features such as 24×7 customer services and the ease of completing the entire process of buying or verifying the insurance plan through the online mode.

Why does comprehensive coverage score over limited coverage?

Travel insurance plans, often called ‘Scheduled Benefit Plans’, offer a more concise form of medical insurance coverage that isn’t the easiest-to-handle. For instance, it may limit the kind of healthcare facilities that can be accessed when seeking travel medical insurance coverage. Further, the number of medical conditions listed in the list of policy Exclusions can be very elaborative. This creates the risk of the insured or his family member’s illnesses or other medical needs being left uncovered. Again, these plans don’t offer the advantage of adding features like trip-cancellation insurance or repatriation of bodily remains insurance or the ease of customizing the payment pattern. These limited-coverage travel insurance plans are also called insurance plans with fixed benefits.

In comparison, the more comprehensive overseas travel medical insurance plans offer a more widespread form of medical insurance coverage. This assures that a larger range of medical conditions and health-related risks are covered.

Why does baggage-theft coverage make sense?

It may sound a bit pessimistic but the fact is international travel is associated with some typical hazards and among these theft of personal belongings is very prevalent. Loss-of-baggage insurance ensures that in case of loss of personal luggage or other items, the financial losses will be covered by the insurance provider. Another important reason to opt for this kind of visitor medical insurance is that the airlines authorities seldom owe-up to their own negligence that might have caused the loss of luggage. Again, the process of seeking any kind of reimbursements from the airlines authority is so demanding that the any kind of compensation seldom comes through. In such a scenario, including baggage insurance in your travel insurance package does seem sensible. Some insurance providers have made baggage insurance all-inclusive wherein some form of token payment is made even for delayed baggage.

Travel Insurance question by remoteportal: Travel Insurance if Passport Not Arrive In Time?
We’re planning a trip to Italy in one month and expedited services says they will complete the passport in two weeks. I’ve heard many stories that it takes much longer than that.

I almost clicked/opted-in for Travel Insurance on Travelocity when booking the tickets but it’s funny that passport problems was NOT listed as a valid reason for insurance payment.

Does anyone else offer insurance for a trip if there are passport problems?

Travel Insurance best answer:

Answer by Charlie
If passport “problems” were not listed, then they are not covered. The passport service currently says expedited service is taking 2 to 3 weeks That is not guaranteed, and at times it can take longer. Right now, the grand rush is on because f the change in the passport law. I do hope you get your passports in time…you should.
